Where Are They Now - Debi Irene Wahl Where Are They Now? - PA - Music - 02/02/2009

Name: Debi Irene Wahl
Band: I go by my name or with my group, Evensong
Instruments you play: I play piano, clarinet & alot of percussion like maracas, triangles, etc.
Hometown: Reading, Pennsylvania born and bred.
What kind of music do you play and what type do you like to listen to: I sing for a living so I do music from many genres. I actually sing styles ranging from roaring20's, Swing/Big Band, Country and Country Gospel, Pop and some Top 40, love tunes and original Christian music as well as Praise and Hymns. I have a very varied taste for music. When I listen? I listen to conservative Talk Radio since I spend so much time singing and it's the only time I can catch up on news and events.
When and why did music become important to you: I started singing before I could walk right. In church as a soloist around the age of 6 years old. Since I was a shy, overweight and funny looking kid, music became my outlet, along with books and reading. I spent alot of time spinning 45's in my room, singing with a hairbrush!
Do you come from a musical family and if so what do they do: My mom is a fantastic pianist and my grandfather, her dad, played multiple instruments, wrote Gospel music and sang tenor and bass.
Tell us about your school experience, particularly middle and High School Schuylkill Valley High School, Leesport, PA, class of '77. Secretarial course and spent my free time in musicals at school and FBLA meetings and workshops.
Tell us about your first time performing for a live audience: When I was that little kid singing in front of church, I was never shy when I was singing.
Who is most influential in your music (other bands): Alot of musicians, hmm, Patsy Cline, The Shirelles, Nat King Cole, George Beverly Shea... a wide variety.
Where does the inspiration for your music come from: Everyday life with Christ and the little things that He blesses with in my family and friends.
Have you been a member of other bands and if so tell us about those experiences: I have a three part girl's group and we are called Evensong, have been singing together about 10 years and love to work our harmonies in Acapella stylings. I also had a country band called The Other Guys and really enjoyed the husband/wife duo that worked keys and guitar/bass and then I also work out with my mom and brother, Scott, at times. He plays bass.
What goals do you as an individual and a band have: I am reaching my goals, by the Grace of God, almost everytime I sing. I do alot of work in nursing and retirement, as well as adult daycare situations and am so blessed when someone with advanced dementia will focus on my face and sing along w/ me. It's the best feeling!
Tell us about a teacher who made a big difference in your life: Mrs. Bausher. She was the music teacher at SVHS in the mid 70's and she was awesome. She once told me that I had style and not to let anyone tell me how to sing because I had a real gift. I never, never forgot that.
Did you play sports in school, if so what were they and what is your best memory from them: I played softball and hockey, BADLY, but it was fun being a part of a group of girls in teamwork.
What's going on with the band now I sing, constantly, either with Evensong, solo or my family unit. It's a joy and actually is my full-time income.
New CD A mighty straight line - but I'm not finished recording the last song on the cd yet.
Tour: It's just easier to hit my website @ http://www.act1productions.com Otherwise it will take ma an hour to fill all the dates in for 2009 :)
Concerts: See above! :)
Studio: Looking for a good one that is reasonable to finish my last song so that I can get this new cd out!
Do you have CD's out now and if so what are they and where can people get them: I have my children's cd called Heroes of the Bible and it is at my website, also CDBaby and people can always call me at home as well. That number is also on the website.
Where can people go on-line to find out more about the band, your music, and how to book you for a show:
http://www.act1productions.com
What are some of your interests outside of music:
I was published in 12/07. I kept a journal after a severe motorcycle accident with my husband and the Lord opened the door for the journal to be published as a book of faith. It's titled, Jesus I'm coming, ISBN 978-0-9800-6110-9, Orr Books, Easton, PA and you can also find it on my website and at Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.com but cheaper if buying directly from me or the publisher.
Anything else you would like to add:
Life is a joyful gift, a great ride with Jesus Christ and it is too short to sit around moping about all that has gone wrong. They that wait upon the Lord will renew their strength... Isaiah 40:31 and that has really been my life's verse.
